ROBERT PODOLSKY: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
|
Research Areas
My research focuses on understanding how genes and gene products work together with environmental factors in relation to diseases. The main focus of this work is statistical and focuses on three main areas:
- Methods for prioritizing genes or proteins of interest from high-throughput experiments;
- Methods for identifying and developing genetic and genomic biomarkers for disease prediction, disease classification and diagnosis, and identifying appropriate therapies;
- Methods for inferring functional sets of genes that have been modified in the disease state.
My research currently involves several diseases including type 1 diabetes and obesity.

|
Development of microarray-based biomarkers for type 1 diabetes
This grant is to develop predictive markers for type 1 diabetes using microarray technology. Responsibility: Analyze data for the entire project and develop statistical methods to identify predictive markers.
|
Proteomic changes/progression of human type 1 diabetes
This grant is to develop predictive markers for type 1 diabetes using proteomic technology. Responsibility: Analyze data for the entire project and develop statistical methods to identify predictive markers.
|
Laser Capture Microscopy and 2D-DIGE: Cancer Proteomics
The major goal of this research is to apply 2D-DIGE technology for the identification of biomarkers characteristic of the progression of four target neoplasms: cervical, esophageal, gastric and colon. Responsibility: Analyze data for the entire project.

Coordinating and Bioinformatics Unit of the Mouse Models of Diabetic Complications Consortium - Thursday, August 13, 2009
This grant is to provide bioinformatic and organizational support for a consortium. My role on this project is contributing statistical support and helping to develop statistical aspects of the web portal for the consortium.
|
Analysis of CD4+ T lymphocyte subsets and their function in anti-tumor immune response. - Thursday, August 13, 2009
This grant is to identify different T lymphocyte subsets and to chracterize their function. My role on this project is to provide statistical bioinformatics support and to provide statistical support in identifying subsets.
